Cold and flu season can be challenging. Here are some guidelines from Attendance Works for parents about when to send students to school and when to keep them home:

  • Send to school if:
    • your child has a runny nose or just a little cough, but no other symptoms
    • your child hasn’t taken any fever-reducing medicine for 24 hours and hasn’t had a fever during that time.
    • your child hasn’t thrown up or had any diarrhea for 24 hours.
  • Keep student home if:
    • your child has a temperature higher than 100 degrees even after taking medicine
    • your child is throwing up or has diarrhea
    • your child’s eyes are pink and crusty
  • Call the doctor if:
    • your child has a temperature higher than 100 degrees for more than two days
    • your child has been throwing up or has had diarrhea for more than two days
    • your child still has asthma symptoms after using asthma medicine (call 911 if your child is having trouble breathing after using an inhaler)
